The Craft Night

I was recently invited to my very first craft night at the lovely Julie's place. She had found some ceramic plates that someone had thrown away (!!), so we started the evening by painting them. I'd never painted ceramic before and I'm really crap at drawing or paiting anything so I was a bit apprehensive, but the little plates turned out very cute! At least now I have a couple of white(ish) plates for food photography... our black and grey plates really are not at all suitable for taking nice food photos.

Julie had also made this amazing gluten free cheesecake just for me. The portion was HUGE but I almost managed to finish it during the evening. Soooo delicious...

Besides the ceramic painting Julie had sewn these little Berlin TV towers, so I filled some of them to take home with me. So cute! And she had a gazillion rolls of washi tape which just had to be used for something, so I made some gift tags. Or a lot. But I'll make a new post of them, because they deserve a post of their own.

All in all the night was everything I had hoped for and more. Hopefully there will be many more such nights to come :) //

Ihana Julie järjesti askarteluillan. Maalattiin lautasia, täytettiin TV-torneja ja askartelin vielä pakettikortteja. Supersuperhauskaa! <3

The Berlin (Photography) Bloggers

Hey you! The spring is finally here, or so it seems. Every other day it's warm and nice, and every other day you wear the same clothes as the day before and almost freeze to death. I'm teetering on the verge of a spring cold, but trying to avoid it by drinking tea, using my neti-pot and eating a ridiculous amount of vitamins. And of course crafting. But more of that in the next post.

Right now, let's go back to last weekend. On Friday, a bunch of photography-minded Berlin bloggers got together in Friedenau (really far away from where I live...) to share a glass of wine and discuss blogging and taking pictures. There were about a dozen of us there, and I'm sad I didn't have time to talk to each of you (needed to leave early for a gig). The list of participants can be seen here. The highlight of the evening for me was to finally meet the lovely Julie of Julie's Schöne Welt. She was every bit as great as I thought she would be, and we immediately made a second date for the beginning of May. Yay!

Thanks again for the great opportunity to meet you guys, and I'll definitely make sure that I can stay longer in the next meet-up.

Viime perjantaina valouvausinnostuneet bloggaajat kokoontuivat länsiberliiniläiseen Friedenauhun. Hauskaa oli vaikkakin riemu loppui omalta kohdaltani lyhyeen kun piti lähteä kaverin keikalle. Ens kerralla sitten enemmän!

The Night At The Doctor's

So yes, holiday. Bali is lovely, and Ubud, the place we're staying at, even lovelier. Like last time. But it is the rainy season. It seems that we've been spoilt rotten on our little Thai island that has seen such a small amount of downppo. It's supposed to be monsoon there as well, but it has rained, like seriously rained, only a couple of days during our whole stay there.

Here it seems to be another story. And I don't really mind the weather - you can always go and take a 5 h package of wraps, massages, scrubs and whathaveyou in a nice spa somewhere if it's raining cats and dogs. But I do mind, when life decides that holidays are as good a time as any to make my boyfriend start puking his guts out for several hours. Luckily there is a small clinic nearby and we got a drip in him and some meds going. After a fretful night all seems to be in the mend, and were already back "home", looking at the gray sky through the window.

Well, there are still plenty of days left. Things can only get better from this, right? Right? //

Hyvää lomaa täällä, joku karman kosto kai tämä, mies sai tosi äkäisen oksupöpön ja yö vietettiin tippa kädessä klinikalla. Nyt jo parempaan päin. Säät ei nyt suosi myöskään, sadekausi. Sainpahan ostettua potilasta odotellessa uunilämpömittarin ja luettua The Helppiä. Jotain hyvää sentään.

The Beginning

Hey there! How nice of you to stop by. My name is Lilje and I'm writing this post in a hammock in Koh Phangan, Thailand. This is not actually where I live, though, as we're only here to escape the Berlin winter. And no, I'm not German either, but a Finn. Yes, Finland, the land of snow, the Moomins... and Santa Claus!

But this blog is not about Thailand, Germany or Finland. It's about the things I love, which are baking, knitting and all sorts of odd projects and bits and pieces about my life. Baking is something I've done for a while now and the results are usually pretty ok, if I say so myself. Knitting is a more recent discovery. I've done the occasional sock before but after knitting a hat and mittens last winter I noticed that it is something I really like doing. So now, in Thailand (of all places), I have harassed family members to send me yarn and needles with visiting relatives, and have started knitting like a crazy person. The results... well, the name of the blog says it all really. They don't always go like in the magazines or knitting how-to-do videos. I'm still trying to get the hang of making heel decreases without holes, getting the tension counting done correctly and so on and so forth. But whatever the result, at least there is lots of love (in addition to all the sweat and sometimes tears...) put in all of my creations.

As I don't have a proper oven here in our little jungle hut, the sweeter side of this blog will have to wait until April when we return to Berlin. There have been a couple of ventures into the world of raw vegan cakes, so there might be something to report on that front as well, but for now, the needles will do most of the talking.

As this is a new blog, I realize that it might take a while before anyone will start reading this, but until (if) I have readers, I will just pretend that there is a huge horde of you, eager to find out what's going on, like a bunch of imaginary friends. But if there are actually some human readers out there, I'd be delighted if you'd leave a comment. Any language is fine, but I read only English, Finnish, German and Swedish fluently ;).

With this view from our balcony, I'll leave you for now. So nice to be finally blogging again! Yay :)

Oh, and PS. If you want to read more about our Thailand trip, click.
